Chapter 17 – Appetite

#320. Many are made sick by the indulgence of their appetite. They eat what suits their perverted taste, thus weakening the digestive organs, and injuring their power to assimilate the food that is to sustain life…. Thus the delicate machinery is worn out by the suicidal practises of those who ought to know better. Sin indeed lies at the door. #321. The declension in virtue and the degeneracy of the race are chiefly attributable to the indulgence of perverted appetite.—Testimonies for the Church 3:486. {HL 74.2}

#324. As our first parents lost Eden through the indulgence of appetite, our only hope of regaining Eden is through the firm denial of appetite and passion…. The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, when, if they had conquered on this point, then they would have had the moral power to gain the victory over every other temptation of Satan. #328. In order for us to enjoy the natural appetite, which will preserve health and prolong life, God restricts the appetite. He says, Beware; restrain, deny unnatural appetite.—Testimonies for the Church 3:63. {HL 75.4}

#329. In its natural state, the taste might indicate, in a great degree, the food best adapted to the wants of the system…. This [the taste] might be correct if the appetite had never been perverted.   1. If you are not currently on a 2-meal/day plan, eat only 2 meals during the day (Wednesday through Saturday) at least 5 hours apart, with no snacks between meals.
  2. Pick 2 days this week to fast completely from food (preferably Monday and Tuesday). You can use the Lemon Cleanse solution (minus the cayenne pepper) in the place of your meals.
  3. Denote each item in the Food Groups charts that you LIKE and DISLIKE and curate a 7-day meal plan using the Meal Planning charts and Cronometer to evaluate nutrition and determine quantities and adjust as needed.
  4. Log your meals (per your plan in #3 above) and other health data into Cronometer (website, iOS, Android), preferably with timestamped notes.
  5. Watch the “Fitness Litmus” video and use our Evaluation Sheet to determine the maximum number of reps for the exercises you can do. Then use our Fitness Planning chart to curate your very own 6-week personal fitness plan.
  6. Manually record your health stats, or take daily screenshots from the following sections in your fitness watch app:
    a) heart rate
    b) activity (calories burned)
    c) sleep patterns
  7. Solidify your new schedule to start your new journey on Sunday, January 2nd 🎉
